Thank you all for your prayers as we traveled home to Madagascar last month. It was far too short, but what we lacked in duration, was made up for in the sweetness of our time on the Red Island!
A Slice of Home to Carry us on…
During the short but jam-packed time that we were in Madagascar, we enjoyed friends and shared meals, the kids enjoyed their friends and sleepovers, we enjoyed working long hours alongside our teammates and tromping through the mud in the mangroves.
Gavin used to be carried on Maman’i Aby’s back, Malagasy style. We joke that he’ll soon be carrying her!
We managed two nights away at our favorite restful location, we celebrated the Resurrection of Christ with a family Sonrise service overlooking the mangroves. We talked and prayed about future plans for the Sarobidy Maternity Center and shopped at our favorite outdoor used clothing market.
We celebrated Eliana’s 15th birthday with a boat ride up the coast and a picnic on the beach. Isabella and Eliana shadowed our Malagasy midwives at the Sarobidy Maternity Center and helped to weigh and snuggle babies.
We bookended our time with two 13-hour drives to and from our city on washed out and pot-hole ridden roads that make up the national highway… and we pulled cars out of the mud both directions!
Celebrating 10 years of SMC…
The biggest highlight of our time was the 10th anniversary celebration of the Sarobidy Maternity Center! And what a celebration it was! Rota, the Malagasy National Director along with the staff, organized the event and pulled it off beautifully!
Staff and their families, key government officials and medical professionals within our community, physicians who we work closely with, former patients, as well as dear friends, all joined together to celebrate God’s faithfulness over the last ten years and to dedicate the next ten years to the Lord.
Speeches were made, a video documenting the last decade was shown, 4 employees were honored for their dedicated service over the last 10 years, a granite hand-chiseled and painted plaque was unveiled commemorating the milestone, a tour was given of the maternity center, a meal was shared, cakes were cut and distributed, songs were sung, prayers were offered and beautiful tears were shed! This was a celebration that I will cherish for a lifetime.

Dr. Candide– a well-respected physician and incredible woman of God who has been our back up physician for the last decade.
We praise the Lord for the ways He has directed, blessed and provided for this vital ministry to women, babies and families! He has graciously lavished the Sarobidy Maternity Center with his faithfulness, goodness and love over the last decade! Would you join us in praying for the next 10 years and beyond… that we would be faithful to hear and follow His direction, that we would continue to be the hands and heart of Christ as we care for women and their babies and that the Lord would continue to open doors to be a Light for Him in a dark corner of the globe!
